Every week, we have the pleasure of hosting a variety of talented performers from a wide range of music genres. We wanted to learn more about them. From what inspires them to their favorite songs to cover. This week, we chatted with Jeff LeBlanc. Check out what he had to say.
What musician/singer inspires you and why?
This question is too hard! There are too many to name. Over the last year I really fell in love with the “20/20 Experience” album by Justin Timberlake. He’s an incredible live performer and seems like a stand up guy as well. I toured with Tori Kelly this summer and she is one of the hardest working yet kindest people I’ve ever been around.
You just finished performing and need a drink what do you reach for?
Water first… am I boring? I don’t really drink when I play because this is my job and I consider it “business” until the last note is played. But afterwards a craft beer is always nice. Being that it’s fall, I’m all in on the ciders right now too. Try this one too – ruby red vodka, grapefruit juice and a splash of champagne… Good times.
Do you have another career in addition to music?
No. I’ve actually been doing music full time now for about 7 years. I went to college to be a History teacher but after graduation this hobby of music became a job…
Why do you enjoy playing at Hotel Indigo?
I love the laid back vibe at Indigo – there’s no pressure on me to be a “bar cover guy”. I can play my original material, practice new songs or maybe pull out a cover I’m working on. Everyone is always in a good mood and it makes it very enjoyable for me.
If you were to cover someone else’s song, which song and why?
My favorite cover to play right now is “Blackbird” by The Beatles. There’s just something about that song that no matter how old the audience is, there’s always a buzz when I start playing it. Incredible song.
What’s going through your mind when you are on stage performing?
It varies from night to night. Sometimes I let my mind seep into the songs and relive what I was writing about. Most of the time I like to see how the audience is reacting and vibe off of their energy.
Do you have a favorite dish at Bistro 72?
So many! Chicken sandwich and the hummus wrap are great… but I always go back to the margherita pie!
